We Just Want to Live
Modern Calls to Harm Transgender People
We live in a society where the radical right is issuing constant propaganda about a tiny minority in the world. Transgender people make up around 0.6% of the population and account for fewer than 0.1% of mass shootings (factcheck.org). Yet now politicians are calling for us to be tracked, targeted, and imprisoned.

Transgender people are over four times more likely to be victims of violent crime. (UCLA)
A Narrative of Lies
Following Charlie Kirk's murder politicians began to spread misinformation claiming that the murderer was transgender. These claims were false. They have since gone on to claim that transgender people are guilty of many violent crimes, claims which are also false. While transgender people make up about 0.6% of the U.S. population, we only make up 0.3% of the prison population (Bureau of Justice Statistics). This call for hate and violence directly harms transgender people and increases the number of hate crimes perpetrated against us.

What They're Saying
Laura Loomer: "It's time to designate the trans movement as a terrorist movement." (X.com; LA Times)
Ronny Jackson: "(Transgender people) have an underlying level of aggressiveness...we have to treat these people... we have to get them off the streets." (Newsmax)

Nancy Mace: "(Transgender people) are the most egregious, most vile, violent people on earth. They are mentally ill and should be in a straight jacket with a hard steel lock on it." (ErinintheMorning)

Donald Trump Jr.: “I can’t name, including probably like Al-Qaeda and the Taliban, a group that is more violent per capita than the radical trans moment” (Daily Beast)

Elon Musk: Reposted a message saying that transgender people should be institutionalized (X.com)
What Can You Do?
Stand Up, Speak Out

The most important thing that you can do now is to speak out against this rhetoric. Post facts about transgender people's lives online to counter these posts. Highlight that transgender people commit very few criminal offenses. Illustrate how we are more often the victims of sexual violence, hate crimes, and violent crime. Explain to people how this persistent hate-posting from conservatives leads directly to increased rates of suicide amongst transgender people.

Most importantly, speak out at your places of work. Demand that bigger organizations and corporations stand up and speak out against this dangerous rhetoric. Do it now while there's still time.
